Observasjonsdetaljer
A large flock of gulls has been spending the nights this week on Lac La Belle, usually out near the middle, but today they were in the north bay and many were close enough to ID. Had 6 adult LBBG and 1 immature. Adults told by their dark gray backs (five were charcoal gray and one was not quite as dark as that, more medium-dark gray) and size intermediate between the immediately adjacent RBGU and HEGU. Sun was getting low, but back color was not an artifact of sunlight because they were in alignment with, and close to, all the other gulls that were showing appropriately light gray backs for their species. Bills yellow with red spot at gonyeal angle. Could not see their legs as they were all on the water and they weren't close enough for me to get eye color. The immature was told by its intermediate size and checkered blackish and white back. There might have been a Mew Gull out there too, but it was too far out for me to call it. A boat plowed through the flock and flushed all the birds while I was still scoping them. I went back after they settled down, now light not as good and they were farther out. That is when I took the attached photo that shows two of the adults.
