At this same site the next night we heard Crypturellus atrocapillus and C. bartletti (see checklist S50476382), however Crypturellus atrocapillus was by far the most common tinamou we detected in the area. Notes on nest: We came across this nest during a night hike along a fire road through várzea forest. We were led by our guide Juan Hueroné who first noticed the adult tinamou sitting on the nest tucked to the right side of the dirt road. However the bird startled quickly and flushed so none of the rest of us saw the adult. However, when I asked our guide for details he said it was a large tinamou with pink legs (C. bartletti are much smaller). We also heard C. atrocapillus call from nearby and he confirmed that was the bird he had seen. Tinamou are commonly hunted in this region so he was familiar with the various species and their calls and plumage. Thus, we have tentatively ID'd this nest as belonging to C. atrocapillus. However, we do not have 100% visual confirmation of the adult so please take the ID under advisement. Over several days of field work (see Moncrieff et al. 2021 Avifaunal surveys in central Peruvian Amazon in Wilson J) we detected the following tinamou: Tinamus guttatus Crypturellus cinereus Crypturellus soui Crypturellus undulatus Crypturellus atrocapillus Crypturellus bartletti
