A Common Greenshank in transitional plumage feeding and running on the strandline. Common Greenshanks (Tringa nebularia) breed from northern Scotland and Scandinavia east the central Asia to eastern Siberia. Non-breeding Common Greenshanks overwinter in Africa, coastal Asia, the Philippines, southern New Guinea and Australia. In Australia they are found inland and on the coast, where they eat small invertebrates and fish. This Greenshank in transitional plumage was hunting on seagrass wrack on the strandline of Peel Inlet, south of Perth in Western Australia before leaving on its long migration, probably to Siberia, to breed. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: March 22, 2019.
