A Dusky Moorhen pair feeding chicks - then one disappears into the rushes. The Dusky Moorhen (Gallinula tenebrosa) is a common waterhen found on urban lakes and well-vegetated wetlands in eastern and south-western Australia. Dusky Moorhens flick their white undertail feathers when walking or alarmed. Dusky Moorhens feed on aquatic vegetation, grasses, fruits, seeds and invertebrates. This pair of Moorhens were feeding their newly-hatched chicks on the flooded edge of Herdsman Lake, near Perth, Western Australia. Both parents fed their chicks for a while before one adult disappeared into the rushes followed by one of the chicks. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: September 10, 2018.
