A male Spotted Dove feeding on bread scraps. The Spotted Dove (Spilopelia chinensis) was introduced to Australia from east Asia in the 1860s. It is widespread in eastern Australia and also occurs on the coastal plain near Perth in Western Australia. It does not seem to be an invasive species – it is mostly seen closely associated with human settlements and activities such as grain siloes. Spotted Doves feed on grains and scraps – this one is feeding on bread in a Booragoon backyard. Elevation: 24 m. Date added to IBC: August 1, 2018.
