Three adult Banded Stilts walking and feeding in Wellstead Estuary. Banded Stilts (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus) are mostly found in southern Australia, and migrate in their hundreds to inland salt lakes for breeding when they fill. The breeding lakes are often hundreds of kilometres inland from the more coastal habitats that these birds occupy when not breeding, but their large populations of brine shrimps make then ideal breeding sites. These three adult birds were feeding and walking on the mud flat at Wellstead Estuary at Bremer Bay on the south coast of Western Australia. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: March 12, 2019.
