Female Giant Kingfisher perching on causeway edge watching for prey. The Giant Kingfisher (Megaceryle maxima) is the largestAfrican kingfisher – about the size of a Kookaburra. The male has a chestnut breast band with white underparts – the female has a white-spotted black breast with chestnut underparts. This female Giant Kingfisher was perching on the edge of the Sabie River causeway in southern Kruger Park, watching the water below intently for signs of prey. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: June 9, 2018.
