Observasjonsdetaljer
*RARE; part of the influx of this species into the state after Hurricane Dorian | first spotted group of 5 foraging together on west side of causeway, where they stayed for majority of time, skimming around the shallows and taking breaks on sandbars. Black and white gull-like birds with long wings, large head, and orange and black bills, with the lower mandible being longer than the upper; dark above, white below, with dark brown-black extending from the head, just forward of the eye, across the upperparts, and making a line down the tail. Broad white trailing edge on the secondaries, mostly white tail except for the dark line down the middle, and white all the way up the body to the forehead, where it wraps around, separating the bill from the dark cap. Black eyes camouflaged within the dark cap. Incredibly unique bill with the lower mandible being longer than the upper; orange proximally, black distally, probably 2/3 black. Orange legs.
