Observasjonsdetaljer
Found earlier in the day by Jonathan Klizas. Continuing. The bird had just been sighted by Ray Duffy in the substation on the north side of the park. Upon my arrival, I observed, perched on a barbed-wire fence which surrounded the substation, a Robin-sized bird, with a gray head, back, and breast, and a bright yellow belly and vent. Long black tail with white outer tail feathers. Longish, strong, thick bill. Black line through the eye (worn, however). The bird perched on the fence for long periods, holding itself not nearly as straight up and down as most Tyrannids, sallying forth to catch insects, usually fanning its tail when it did so, and returning to the same perch. Although this is the first Western Kingbird I have ever observed in NJ, I am familiar with the species from numerous trips to the western US.
