Observasjonsdetaljer
First seen by Kim Ney near her home in town with a small flock of Sandhill Cranes. Well seen by over a dozen people on 13 May 2002 and by many other Gustavus residents in the following days as the Demoiselle Crane came and went from town with the small flock of Sandhill Cranes. This crane was present at Gustavus through at least 18 May 2002 when it was photographed by Kim Ney, the last firm date that it was seen. Three photos included here were taken by Sean Neilson on 14 May 2002. This crane had no tags or bands and was moving freely with the Sandhill Cranes. It was believed to be the same Demoiselle Crane that was seen with Sandhill Cranes the previous winter in California. In 2012, at the request of Steve Heinl, I wrote up a brief report on this crane's occurrence in Gustavus. Although its identity was not questioned, it was not accepted by the state records committee as a naturally occurring bird. Entered here in November 2018.
