Observasjonsdetaljer
At about 0730 someone found the Lesser Sand-Plover. It was foraging in the same area favored during previous days. It moved along the water’s edge to our right, became obscured by taller vegetation (cattail patch), but soon came into the open again – similar pattern as last weekend. Today, however, it flew to the far right corner of this area (what Peter Knapp calls Cell 11) where three sets of three Snowy Plover chicks (hatchlings) were foraging and being escorted by adult male Snowy Plovers around a small pool of water. For some reason, the SNPL males acted aggressively toward the Lesser Sand-Plover and I was able to get some interesting photos including some that show the upper wing and upper tail patterns (if only they were in better focus…). This was a bit closer than photos of the plover from last weekend, but the sun glare was more of an issue today.
