Observasjonsdetaljer
Continuing bird....it remained long enough for us to get to Bolivar Flats from Ontario. A noticeably stocky black mantled gull was observed in flight and at rest on the shoreline of Bolivar Flats. This gull appeared to be slightly smaller than the adjacent Herring Gulls. A white rump was noted as was an all white tail. The primary and secondary wings were black edged with noticeable white tips. The tertials were black and revealed broad white tips that created a conspicuous crescent. The underparts were white. The large head was all white with an incredibly massive deep yellow bill that showed a large red spot at the gony bump. We had a second opportunity to study this rare gull later in the day on the spit behind the Baja Beach Club at East Beach, Galveston Island, Texas. I have include two of my record only photos.
