Adult bird. Plain breast with spot and black, white and brown face pattern. See photos. This bird was at a small area of bare ground on the roadside with two juncos and a song sparrow. We stopped to check out the small flock and the first view I had of this bird was frontal. My immediate thought was I was looking at a tree sparrow. Then as I saw the head pattern and the wings and back I was processing the fact that these did not look like a tree sparrow. Then it clicked as to what this really was. Incredibly lucky find that may never have occurred if the snow cover hadn't driven the birds to the roadside.
