at least this number, while walking towards the rocky island where the sand plovers roost 22.51036039383255, 113.94153476518983 saw a flock fly east presumably into shenzhen bay, got photos of them in flight, looked like they were mostly of the lesser SP type and most looked tibetan, and the vast majority like 90% of the SP on the island area tibetan, my target species here was siberian. i kept looking for siberian SP, mainly searching for breeding adults with the distinctive white forehead/ black edge to chest band or white border between the mask and the orange cap, found 1-2 that might have been good candidates but those were already in transitioning plumage/molting from their breeding plumage so it mightve been the messy plumage that made me thing siberian SP when they were probably tibetan, for basic plumaged bird i looked for birds with darker ear coverts/mask compared to the rest of their gray colors and birds with more contrasting gray and white but most of the birds were either buffy brown immature birds that i didnt know how to ID or birds that looked tibetan nonbreeding without a lot of that contrasting plumage. there were at least 5 birds in what i would consider pretty full breeding plumage and some of them were confusing with slight hint of black border to the orange on the chest still had full black forehead.havent reviewed photos as of writing this comment and there mightve been a few siberian in there but the vast majority are still tibetan. there are also two islands at this location a closer one being the 22.510201409344376, 113.94164232541212 one, there were 4 other birders that arrived after me to watch and said that earlier in the morning they would even come on this smaller island which is much closer for viewing and earlier in the morning on the larger island they're more easily seen on the south side (i.e. the closer side) but at 9am pretty much all of the plovers have gone on the northern side of the island so most of them are obstructed. count is conservative estimate
