long awaited lifer - both juvs. first one seen foraging in the water on the south end near the se corner, loosely with stilt , white-rumped and semipalmated sandpiper. bill was not that long but it was a little down-curved, black legs, pale face, overall gray appearance with bold orange shoulder stripe and large patch of orange on the upper back, finely demarcated lines on the flanks and breast, and faint orange wash by the ear. never got a good look at this birds feet but the legs did seem long and the bird was a little deeper than nearby sesa. the early morning light cast a bit of an orange glow on the bird once the clouds cleared but in the shade the contrast between the orange and gray in it's plumage were very pronounced and obvious. got some windy audio of this first bird. second bird seen a little further north and was foraging more in the mud, and much more skittish than the other one. this one had a darker cheek, more rufous in the cap, a clean white belly with little to no streaking on the flank, and longer bill and since it was out of the water i could see its very long legs and feet, overall a more textbook western than the first. it maintained that neckless and front-heavy posture that to me for some reason gives it a bug like look.
