Amazing sequence of events. I only wished I had thought to record the action. Osprey dove for a fish (I missed the initial splash, but was ready when it went to take off. It tried 5-6 times to lift the fish out of the water. I suspect it was too heavy or in an awkward position as in between attempts, the osprey appeared to be manipulating the fish underwater. It finally gave up and flew off empty handed (taloned). I later saw it sitting in a tree with very wet feathers so I'm sure this is the same osprey that had an unsuccessful fishing trip. Super cool for me to observe, but quite an ordeal for this poor osprey because it was still sitting in this tree for a long time because it was there when I later passed by on my way back to my car.
