Rare in Anchorage. First heard the harsh grating calls (like a longer, slower, harsher, more undulating Bonaparte's Gull call) overhead, but it took us a second to find the bird flying high over Lake Hood going south. Large tern with large red bill, black cap, and lots of black in the primaries. It didn't seem interested in staying around the area.
