As I was driving east on Rt. 6, I noticed two adult Sandhill Cranes off to my left, foraging in a meadow next to SGL 306. I realize the cell phone photos are terrible, but you can at least make out that the two birds are about the size of Great Blue Herons, but are chestnut-colored, not gray. You can tell by their posture and head markings that they are indeed SHCRs. With them was ONE, POSSIBLY TWO COLTS. I did not have my binoculars with me. I saw one colt for sure. The second photo shows one colt just behind the front bird. The grass was tall and I thought I may have seen two colts. I am very familiar with this species as I see and hear them occasionally in both Erie and Crawford Counties to the west of Warren County. There are at least four previous eBird reports of this species in SGL 306.
