Jamie Hill and I have been seeing adult Green Herons flying back and forth across the airspace of Gravel Pit Park = GPP (504 Erie Street on Rt. 99 on the east side of Edinboro Lake) for the past month or so. We thought they may have been nesting in the tree line on the north side of the Edinboro Cemetery like we assumed they have been doing for years, but we also saw them in the trees on the north side of GPP. This evening, Terrie Swanson and I saw two fledgling Green Herons in the rear of GPP. They were first seen on the ground, then when we approached, they flew awkwardly up into some nearby trees. Because they seemed to fly so weakly, we don't think they came as far as from the north side of the cemetery. Here are some smart phone voucher images. [Update 8 July 2024: Suzanne Winterberger, who lives adjacent to Gravel Pit Park, informs me that all day long she watched SEVEN Green Herons perched around her house on 8 July 2024. It was likely 2 parents and 5 fledglings.]
