Found and photographed by Dalton McCoole on 8 December. The bird was present until about 11 a.m. and then departed. Report in ME-BRC files. This represents the 4th documented record for Maine and 5th overall (location of a specimen reported over a century ago remains unseen). December 2021 saw several reports of Northern Lapwing from Newfoundland south to Maryland. The bird here occurred five days after one on Iles de Madeleine, Quebec, 3 Dec, and that one followed or was the same as one seen 1-2 Dec at Stephenville, Newfoundland. Another report was 10-18 December on Sable Island off Nova Scotia, and then to the south a lapwing at Milford Point, Connecticut on 16 Dec and then 18 Dec on Long Island at Santapogue Creek, Babylon, New York. A bird in Salem Co., New Jersey might have been present as early as 14 Dec but was seen 21-26 Dec. Another lapwing was at Centreville, Maryland 21 to at least 28 Dec.
