Медиа тэмдэглэл
A Red-capped Parrot pair feeding on the ground. The wonderfully coloured Red-capped Parrot (Purpureicephalus spurius) is restricted to south-western Western Australia and occurs in eucalypt forests as well as in well-treed urban areas, and it is sometimes a pest in orchards. The very long upper mandible is a special adaptation to help it remove seeds from the woody seed capsules (or gumnuts) of trees such as Marri (Corymbia calophylla). This pair of Red-capped Parrots were feeding quietly on the grass at the edge of Peel Inlet in Western Australia. The male is holding a Marri gumnut in his foot and extracting the seeds. After abandoning the nut he moves to be with the female, after which they both fly off. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: July 2, 2018.
