At its usual perch near the top of the roadcut on the north side of 1475 E Loma Alta Drive. Initially identified by its eyeshine but also heard making flight calls. Audio recordings. Seen about 30 minutes after sunset. Recorded between 19:30-19:37 PDT. On the last two recordings the flight calls subsided in frequency except for a couple of bursts that occurred after the bird flew out after prey. The general pattern during the few weeks the bird has been present has been for more vocalizing earlier in the night followed by a fairly rapid reduction after dusk. From then on, the vocalizing happens intermittently, with occasional flurries that appear to correlated with attacks the bird makes on flying bugs. From its perch, the bird's prey is often silhouetted against city lights. To date, I have not heard the bird make "poor-will, poor-will" calls at this location. All files were trimmed and normalized to -3 dB. The bird was still there at 21:45 PDT as light rain began falling. Also still there at 23:20 PDT.
