Found on 12/17/17 by R. Fanning during Xmas Bird Count. Had also been seen earlier this day 12/18 by others. I was alone and away from all other birders when I heard chip calls and observed a small bird moving along the ground. Initial glimpse was of an olive-backed warbler-sized bird with bright yellow underparts. The individual then hopped up onto a dead snag about 60 feet off, jumped about and chipped agitatedly for at least 30 seconds, allowing a much better look: bright grayish rounded head and throat, prominent white arcs above and below eye. The back color in full sunlight was almost limey-green (slightly reminiscent of fall plumage Chestnut-sided), and the yellow below was extremely bright. The individual was slightly larger than a typical Parulidae, with more heft to the body. The bird remained in view off and on for about 5--8 minutes. Photos courtesy of Jageshwar Benimadho, who snapped them while standing on my immediate right.
