*****Very rare. Initially reported as Barnacle Goose, found by Kevin Ebert et al. Swimming with 7-10 Cackling Geese offshore, then moving into bay by swimming beach. Much like Barnacle at first glance but back much brownish, closer to other white cheeked geese it was with than the cold gray with black markings typical of Barnacle. Face pattern was distinct but with much less white on forehead than a Barnacle would show. Breast black, seemingly pure black at a distance and the most striking feature after the face pattern, but seemed to have a brownish tinge in brighter light, and had a scaly, uneven appearance at its base (see ML75040801). Size equivalent to the Cackling and bill very stubby; would be larger-bodied and longer-billed if crossed with Canada?
