The swift perched on my hand, as I attempted to allow it to fly away. It was not able to.

**apparently late**. Large swift, with charcoal-colored base color, very long wings, and frosted edges to contour feathers on underparts, head (especially the forecrown), and undersides of tail feathers. No white on feathers, just frosted edging. Squareish tail indicates female; frosted edgings to body feathers (but not the head feathers) suggests juvenile. Found grounded in yard, not able to fly; no apparent injuries (although internal injuries certainly possible), just weak. Housed overnight in cardboard box with soft towel and delivered to Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley the following morning for evaluation, care, and hopefully a successful release in a few days. Additional photos available upon request. This is a new species for the yard list, and one I very much wanted to see from the yard, but not under these circumstances.
