*Rare. Continuing find by Sean McCann from the Belmont Harbor hotspot an hour prior. After we scoped the bird from the south lawn of Jarvis, we noticed the grebe was swimming northeast towards Montrose pier, so I decided to sprint to my car and intercept it at Montrose to nab it on my favorite site list. I arrived here at 4:33pm, ran to the south edge between the conifers and native, outer plantings, but couldn't spot the bird with the waning light. As the sunset progressed, Lin Johnston remarked that she had the bird straight out from our vantage point and I got some lucky shots with little light to work with. With the vanishing light, I watched the bird swim slow and parallel to the pier about a quarter of the way down the length. For folks looking to chase, I think your best bet is spotting it off Montrose pier first thing in the morning. My 257th Montrose bird!
