A great find by Heather Ridgeway for the CBC, reported by Christy Beck via Paul Lehman. Setting (set) sun made photography incredibly difficult. Bird up for a few moments, then down diving/foraging/"flying" underwater, staying adjacent to or under the pier. Multiple sets of eyes made relocating much easier, though by the time I arrived around 4pm, it was absent for much of the hour. Gray-backed alcid with black crown and pale-tipped bill.
