Field marks shown distinguishing the upper SEPL from the CRPL, include: white feathering behind the base of its bill (which has a bit of a pink base); significant white patch behind its eye; distinct contrasty eyeing; pale-orange legs; extensive webbing between its toes' "cute" rounded appearance. The lower SEPL is out of focus but has a very rounded structure.

As precise a count as I could obtain. They are in a variety of plumages, a couple showing darker faces and/or orangish legs approaching that of the Common Ringed Plover, but close study revealed some combination of yellowish eye ring, white behind the bill, and/or more white on the face. In addition, the structure of the SEPLs tend to be more round-headed and petite than the CRPL. Quite a few of the SEPLs showed yellowish legs and photos revealed more extensive webbing between their toes. Photos included of a sample set of the SEPLs present.
