Continuing- Nice find by Jon Skinner. When I arrived around 10 AM the bird had just taken off. Many of us continued to look, but a moderate snow squall that lasted close to thirty minutes made scanning a little difficult. Around 10:40, the Longspur flew in alone and joined a group of about 35 Horned Larks that were feeding near one of the airport hangars. Everyone was able to watch the Longspur for the next twenty minutes before it flew off towards the runways. Decent views were had with spotting scopes. Smaller than Horned Larks, this bird is pale sandy with a small light bill, thin white eye-ring, and faint breast streaks. The lower belly was noticeably dark (Blackish). In flight, I noticed a fair amount of white in the tail. Attached are a few distant photos.
