First detected in a planted pine tree above a tallow tree here, 38.570200,-121.357530, at break between condos. I may have glimpsed it near the Mayhew Drain bridge with Bushtits in a quick check of conditions for the ARNHA survey on Friday afternoon. The quality of the yellowish wash to the head and breast is distinctive. On this observation, my initial impression was that it was a "Baypoll" or Pine Warbler. We had the bird briefly in view at around 0840 for less than a minute and I was able to take some low resolution photos. The Pine Warbler ID was established based on the yellowish wash described above, combined with distinct white wingbars on grayish wings, a white belly, and white undertail. There was also white in tail spots in the outer tail feathers. It had a pale eyering, partially broken, and dark lores. It was seen at least two more times in the pine tree by 15 or so arriving birders through the mid-morning, and then refound along Rio Bravo Circle just before 1100 near the entrance path to Larchmont Park about 250 ft to the southwest of the pine tree observations. Subsequent observations in the following (at least) two days were near the Larchmont Park entrance path approximately here (38.569332, -121.358032) or nearby along Rio Bravo Circle. Then, it was often frequenting Chinese Pistach trees in the company of dozens of Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warblers.
