Very confused about this one, but I think most likely is immature male Greater Scaup. Lack of yellow eyes is unusual, as well as the single white spot under the wing. Would love to be corrected on this if any other ideas Edit: Reviewer suggested Lesser Scaup instead, which also makes sense to me: While hard to be certain with these images I suspect this is the adult male non breeding Lesser Scaup that was present at this site on the same day. It was sleeping when I saw it but identifiable due to the noticeable peak to the hind crown; surprisingly this feature is best seen on sleeping birds as, when active, the head shape is often hard to determine as the feathers may be relaxed, or matted after diving.
