Second tries a charm! Reappeared on the 4th in the same spot as it was through the end of October. No sign of it last weekend but pics from the 4th look like the same bird. In the big patch of bushes at the base of the tower. Popped up for a minute, 40 minutes before sundown. Played call and a black shadow rustled around at the edge of the bush, below eye level. Sat still, 10 feet away for half a minute, tucked behind a layer of foliage. Got a couple pics in the low light before it slunk away. Got one more brief look before it vanished entirely. Big, solid black cuckoo, massive tail, scaly patterning across its body, distinct grooves on its huge silver bill. Year #353!
