1st State Record!!! Exceptionally rare fall vagrant to the east, and it’s been here for at least a week. Photographed the 2nd but word didn’t get out till last night after a post for ID help to Alabama Birding Trails. Insane refind by Ripley this morning. ATTA BOY!!! In a bottlebrush bush a couple houses down from Jenny's, behind a vacant rental-(30.2513859, -88.1305080). Found it myself in the same spot. I circled the bush a couple times and was about to keep moving…when a flash of yellow and black! Young male. Clean olivish yellow underparts. Dark streaked, olive and gray back. Black head and chest, touch of olive feathering into the nape, cap, and lower chest. Dark bill with pale base. Touch bigger and bulkier than an OROR. Shy and quiet. Whenever I would move, it would shift to the opposite side of the bush, only hitting an edge a couple times. Decent looks though and managed a couple backlit pictures. Had it on and off for several minutes before it vanished, must have flown out of the backside when I wasn’t looking. No other sightings the rest of the day. Year #352!
