Juvenile and adult or second juvenile calling back and forth.
観察結果の詳細
Adult heard hooting just after entering woods, singing towards Rocky Dell Run to magnify voice. Continued moving for about 50 feet before stopping, to avoid disturbing the owl. Hooting came a few more times, then heard strong rattling through the branches from what must have been a hunting attempt. Possibly saw owl land on ground, although may have also seen raccoon-sized mammal leaving area. Just after commotion, southern flying squirrel began giving alarm calls. Hooting did not start again and I moved down trail to ensure I wouldn't interrupt the owl's meal if it was successful. Moved father east above Hemlock and about at 5:30 a.m. heard two owls calling back and forth, one, if not both juveniles. Able to moved to with in about 50 feet of the closest owl. Appeared to be two juveniles calling and back and forth, although unsure if this was because I was hearing the calls much closer than normal. At one point sounded like the owls traded places, the more scratchy voiced one remaining in the park and the other now calling from the opposite hillside above Rocky Dell Run. After making a few recording, backtracked to cross the trail at the midpoint of the ridge. The closer one stopped calling for a moment as I passed, while the other continued calling several times. Soon the owl on the park side began calling again. Owls called until at least I moved into a new checklist area at 6:08 a.m. Further activity from this area documented in later checklist.
