Holy shit. What a time. Refound Craig Tumer's bird! Motorless bird 201....?!?! Wtf. I will preface all of this by saying Andrew Aldrich called it; messaging with him about the bird when Craig first found it he jokingly asked if I was at Harbor View waiting for it to fly in and thought "that the cormorant roost across from Harbor View would be ideal". So needless to say I was keeping my eye across the Willamette a little more than usual today. I went down to the river to get better views of a handful of Western/Clark's type grebes and as I was walking back to do my normal loop I saw a bunch of corms flush from across the river and then saw a bird about the same size totally brown above with a bib and white below flying around the structures. Holy shit, Craig's COBO!!! It continued to fly around the structures here, flushing corms as it tried to perch: 45.572072,-122.743111 I tried to refind it and eventually did see it perched on the same corm roost wooden structures. Difficult to refind as it faced away from me showing it's brown back against the dark brown wooden structures and flora behind it. As I notified those on Discord I lost it, but then saw all of the gulls flushing from the gull roost. Bald Eagle, but where? Eventually I saw it circling low above the water as if it was going after something. Holy SHIT it's the COBO. Circling and swooping happened for what seemed like 5 minutes, but maybe less. Very insane. It picked the COBO up at least once and I thought it was done for. Eventually the BAEA gave up for good and flew up river, but still in sight. Miraculously the COBO picked up and began to fly back across the river, acting as if unscathed. Eventually posted back up on the structure hopefully out of sight of the BAEA. Seems to be a female with the all brown hood. Yellowish facial skin with pink bill and dusky tip. The clincher for COBO over BRBO is the brown underwing covert bar seen in photos. Seems fine for nominate ssp brewsteri with the facial skin coloration but will leave it without knowing confidently although esteciaca would be unprecedented.
