An impressive loon migration event observed today! Groups streaming by rather low over the park from 7-9:30 am. I counted all the groups I saw and logged them, giving 52 loons throughout the morning: 8 7:35 am, 7 7:48 am, 1 8:08 am, 16 S 8:15 am, 2 8:25 am, 8 8:28 am, 1 8:55 am, 9 9:20 am. Unfortunately, I can’t ID loons well by the flight profile, and most of these loons were quite backlit. I took photos of several of the groups, and the loons in these photos appear to be mostly Common, with big, blocky heads, hefty, straight bills, and broken neck collars . I'd estimate at least 40 were Common, and the rest I'm leaving as loon sp.
