ES - Mientras pajareaba lentamente en mi moto por la zona, observé a lo lejos un ave corpulenta de tamaño considerable, a unos 150–200 m al interior de este humedal/llanura inundable. Me detuve y tomé una primera fotografía para confirmar que se trataba de la especie en cuestión. Intenté acercarme más para obtener una mejor imagen para el registro, pero el humedal tenía una cantidad considerable de agua y no podía dejar la moto sola sobre la vía. Según Birds of the World, la especie puede encontrarse en el valle medio del río Magdalena (Hilty & Brown, 1986), con registros hasta los límites del departamento de Santander. ¡Este podría ser el primer registro confirmado con evidencia para el departamento de Antioquia!, ya que en la Guía de Aves de Antioquia (2024) aún se considera una especie hipotética. Las fotografías del hábitat fueron amablemente compartidas por Rodrigo Gaviria Obregón, quien visitó el sitio en los días siguientes para buscar nuevamente al ave. EN - While birding slowly on my motorcycle through the area, I spotted a large, stocky bird in the distance, about 150–200 meters into the flooded plain. I stopped and took an initial photo to confirm the identification. I tried to get closer for a better picture, but the wetland was quite flooded, and I couldn’t leave my motorcycle unattended on the road. According to Birds of the World, this species occurs in the middle Magdalena Valley (Hilty & Brown, 1986), with records reaching the limits of Santander Department. This might represent the first confirmed record with photographic evidence for the Department of Antioquia, as the Birds of Antioquia Field Guide (2024) still lists it as a hypothetical species. Habitat photos were kindly shared by Rodrigo Gaviria Obregón, who visited the site a few days later to look for the bird again. I’m very grateful for his effort and for reconfirming the observation.
