Slender nightjar with clear white markings 2/3 down wings. Wings held in v-pattern with distinct fluttering flight over road. Pictures and video taken. ADDENDUM: Back in 2015, Bill Pulliam shared that the position of the wing-patch is suggestive of Lesser Nighthawk (He received that input from unnamed other birders). This analysis was echoed, at the time, by Marshall Lliff (sp?) from Cornell. The counsel given was to change it to “Nighthawk sp” until further review. However, I never heard back, and I couldn’t find the iPhone video I had taken. BEHAVIOR: The bird remained completely silent both times I encountered it. It’s also worth noting this bird behaved “weirdly”: (1) It stayed over the road, (2) It foraged extremely low; not high as I’m used to seeing with CONI. So low, there were a couple times I thought it would get hit by the passing semis. Of interest, see this record in KY. https://ebird.org/checklist/S223706342 Rediscovered images have been included. An additional iPhone video is also available (Unfortunately, unable to include here). [video has now been added to record - Marshall Iliff, 2 Dec 2025]
