[Approximate pinned location, deduced from the text, Przewalski’s account of the journey (in two volumes), the expedition's detailed itinerary, and Petermann’s 'route-map' of c. 1876] Przewalski noted that this taxon was new to science. "P. longirostris is very shy, and not numerous in Kan-su; we saw it most commonly on the rocky localities at Gadjur. Having arrived, on the 20th of April 1873, in the mountains south of the river Tetung, we found there the present species. The limit of its distribution is formed by the Kan-su mountain-chain."
