finally seen! I had taken one, alive, out of a mist net on Cordillera Colan in 1978 - just a little over two years since this species first was discovered, buvWratern scietitsby John O'Neill - but have waited a long time to see this one. a bird was singing almost as soon as we stepped out of the car, and I got some audio of natural songs during this period. we had two brief, but decent, views of an owlet. the first was at ca 18:30, when we saw one clinging to the side of a vertical tree. its face was pointed somewhat away from me, but it looked forward, showing off the long whiskers. sometime later we had a naked-eye view of an owlet flying across a gap in the trees, and we had our second sighting around 18:45. despite continued attempts at luring one in, we had no further sightings, although during this period we became aware that we were hearing two different individuals.
