This is an adult dark rufous morph RTHA, subspecies abieticola. I received this from Brian Sullivan: " Wow, that's a ... cool bird! In the Yukon we see a mix of mainly abieticola and harlani. This bird is somewhere on that gradient, but it looks much more toward the abieticola camp than the harlani camp. The only thing that suggests harlani is the very wide dark subterminal tail band, but nothing else looks good for that taxon. I'd put this in eBird either as abieticola or as abieticola/calurus, which is what some folks are using for dark birds such as this." Bryce Robinson wrote:"That is an awesome bird. I of course agree completely with Brian's assessment on best subspecies assignment for your bird. I am currently working on some illustrations that I'll use to create some infographics that should help with distinguishing between dark abieticola and dark calurus, as well as some information on how to treat birds that have mixed characters from two or more populations."
