responding to playback, in shrubs along the road at the upper edge of the large landslide. initially seen, naked-eye only, flying low across the road. FAP put a speaker in a shrub just off the road and continued playback, at a low volume. the tapaculo spent several minutes darting back and forth, singing occasionally, but for a long time all we had were a frustrating series of very quick, naked-eye views. finally popped into view; did not stay still for long, it was enough time for a focused-in- binoculars view, and some photos.
