Continuing rarity. Thanks to whomever found it. Spent two hours in morning and then left to use facilities. While gone the bird landed in a tree close to where I was formerly standing. Thankfully the bird was reported by Scott Dresser. I hurried back but the bird had flown. Scott showed me the direction and I spent 20minutes scanning the ocean side. Relocated the bird resting in the dunes to the right of the clamers. Bird was silhouetted with sky behind. Large all black raptor with feathered head. Watched it through the scope for 10 minutes. Then watched it fly and followed it with the scope across the dunes. Sharply contrasting two tone underwing pattern like a Turkey vulture has. Bird flew into the upland dunes and into a very low weather beaten juniper. Here it perched for another 30minutes. Many folks got to look through the scope at it. Bird was eating something it had stashed in the tree. Also, as a side note, the tree where it landed for Scott Dresser had a food cash as well. There was a dead herring gull in the tree.
