Sweet!! Noticed a fairly large bluebird flock on the power-lines south of the gulch. They were poorly lit in the setting sun, but as I was looking through them I noticed a paler individual with a slight pale supercilium, all dark, thin bill, and pale chin. The strong lighting was making it really tough to gauge, but then it started calling, clearly giving a clearer, less throaty descending “pew” than nearby webl. All of the webl flew off and this bird lingered, so I took some more photos before it flew off after them about 2min later. I guess there is still a fair bit of debate, though nobody has really contacted me directly 🤷🏼♂️ I’ll slash this even though I’m pretty dang sure this was a Mountain. The lighting was very weird and made the bird appear much brighter than it actually was, in the photos with the sun at my back, the pale supercilium and chin are clearly visible. I think too much emphasis is likely being placed on color, which, as a colorblind person I frown upon. The call is genuinely different between mobl and webl, which maybe is being debated (I wouldn’t know, I haven’t been included in the discourse). If nothing else I trust my ears, as I have critically studied this many times in the past. Should have taken an audio, but I really didn’t have much time with the bird, and it was pics or audio ultimately. I’m still pretty sure this was mobl, but 🤷🏼♂️
