Rough estimate, actual number may be even higher. Dense flocks in numerous places along the shore. (Digiscoped photo shows just one small flock.) Medium-sized shorebird; bill moderately long, thick, and slightly drooped; yellow-green legs; size comparisons made to other species present; tail raised higher than dowitchers as birds probed underneath the water. Alternate plumage had rufous crown; rufous auriculars; white supercilium; heavily barred breast; fine barring on sides and back of neck; large dark spots on back; gray wings.
