Photo-birder, Marc Behr, was visiting Scott Park at the base of Presque Isle State Park to search for a nest of Great Horned Owls that was well known to many trail walkers, birders, and photographers. Because Marc is not an eBirder and not participating directly in the 3rd PA Breeding Bird Atlas, I, James Hill am entering his observations for him. According to Marc: "The nesting site at Scott Park is in a broken off tree with a cavity that is close to and abuts the walking paths towards the NE portion of the park near tall pines. Scott Park is heavily used as a dog park and walking/biking trail. Weather was cool in January and became temperate/warm in March & April. No distinct sounds outside of several crows that would harass the adult GHOs. The adult would fly into the tall pines to draw the crows away from the nesting site. I observed this at almost every visit in April. I wasn’t lucky enough to see both adults on site, however I did spot one adult nearby the nest on our visits......I did find evidence of owl feeding activity in April, including the hind remnants of a rabbit near the nest. The last day I spotted the fledgling was 4/14." See Checklists: https://ebird.org/atlaspa/checklist/S186591980 https://ebird.org/atlaspa/checklist/S186591770
