NOTES: LNS Note: Unbroken cut with internal recordist announcement gain change.. Neotropical Institute Cut # 17. Bulk reel: 119. 203 tape. "Song" by male (natural). May be homologous to the "kerrick" or "cher-lik" calls of the northern form, but cf. later recordings. Quality: 2-. Level: +3. 7.5 ips. Continuation of above (~ 2"). Then some calls of same bird after playback. Quality: 2. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. "Song" by female - apparently homologous to "di-di-di" type of c[word unfinished; recordist presumably meant to write "call"].Quality: 2-3. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. Then still different calls by female (which may also be homologous to "kerrick," but different from the other. Quality: 2. Level: +3. Then after more playback, birds are more excited. "Di-di-di" calls. Quality:1-2. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. Male is in focus in most, but at times female heard in background. Note: In view of the different nature of the vocalizations and the considerable difference in external morphology (plumage color) of the females, it is possible that rufiventris is a different species. The area around and between Cano Catanaiapo (from where Phelps list F.g. orenocensis) and Sanariapo (from where they list rufiventris) should be checked for morphological and vocal interpretation, or lack of it. ML: Subject changed from recordist's original identification of Formicivora grisea rufiventris to Formicivora grisea [grisea Group] to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 1.55). -Jay McGowan/Matt Medler, July 2015.
