An exact count. Not rare on the SRP, this has been a known breeding location for many years. Small brown sparrows, clear breasted, song a thin, high pitched insect like buzz. Recording and photos attached. Two heard singing in the grassland northeast of Monument Hill on the uphill portion of Monument Hill Rd., not far from the Vista Grande trail intersection. Another two birds heard singing directly north below Monument Hill, one on each side of Monument Hill Rd. One bird was singing directly west below Monument Hill, and another bird further west from that location, too far distant to be the same bird. One bird was singing at the intersection of Monument Hill and Ranch Rd., and another one was heard and photographed along Trans Preserve trail northeast of Poppy Hill. See photos and recording attached.
