I heard an unusual bird and identified it with Merlin as the blackbellied whistling duck. I walked in my yard and spotted 2 in a maple tree in my front yard. They were tan and black with white on the wings with long pink legs and red bills. They flew to adjoining cornfield and stayed out there a few minutes, then flew back into my yard. They stayed in the trees in my yard another 15 minutes- a Pine, Maple and finally a Catawba tree before flying away in a northward direction. The only camera I had was my iPhone but I got pics and video. ***Edited to add- at 7:45pm 5/9/2024 I walked to back of my property and spotted 16 Black Bellied Whistling Ducks in the cornfield. I followed them to a water source after they hunted the field a few minutes. I’ve added more pics and Merlin video.
