*rare. First spring record for Lake on eBird and a new state/county bird for me. Initially passed off as LB for being more likely. Out of curiosity, I started experimenting between LB and SB vocalizations to see which they would respond to. After trying LB without a response, I switched to SB, and they responded with the tutu call. From my photos, it shows the sides of the breast, and the majority of the flanks are spotted (rather than strongly barred in LB). My thoughts for ssp. are hendersoni (or central) rather than caurinus (or pacific) because, though somewhat west of its typical range, the lack of dense spotting on the front breast is apparent, and the upperside/wings are barred golden (lighter) than the dark upperside/wings seen on caurinus (or pacific). One contradiction could be the lack of strong orange throughout the lower belly, back flanks, vent, and undertail coverts (seen on some pics), but one of the images shows orange on this part (so it was probably the lighting). Interested in hearing other thoughts!
